Walks and experiences in the Salema Area

However tempting it is just to stay at the sandy beach in Salema, close to bars and restaurants, you should also allow yourself to experience the surrounding area. You can do shorter or longer walks or take your car to interesting spots in the area.

Here we have collected some different possibilities for you, some are in the form of maps and some are in the form of texts.

Southcoast, West of Salema

Here you can walk along the coast or more inland to the West of Salema. The walk will take you to different beaches, of which the one furthest away has caves that are accesible at low tide.

Sagres and Westcoast

This tour will take you to Sagres, Capo São Vicente - the end of the world, and beautiful beaches on the West coast. You will need a car for this.

To fully enjoy the visit to Castelejo you should be there at low tide, so that you can walk to the next beach, Cordoama, and back again.

Burgau

This walk will take you to Burgau.

Burgau is East of Salema and on the way you will pass some beautiful areas like the beaches Boca do Rio and Cabanas Velhas. On the whole walk you will be close to the sea. If you are a bird watcher, you might see the Bee eater in Boca do Rio.

Secret coves

This walk will take you to to secret coves and small beaches to the West of Salema. Sometimes these beaches will have a lot of golden sand and at other times the sand will be gone.
